Meet results – 6 December

Had the CAPO Deadlift Challenge yesterday, as mentioned in the last post.

There wasn’t a huge amount of people, two girls and I think six guys in total, but there was some good lifting all the way around.

I took a token effort, since I decided to do this just a week ago. I was in the middle of a training cycle and not at all prepared for this, but I figured what the hell. My wife and a few friends from the gym were doing it, so I had no real reason not to.

Warmups felt good, and pulling on a good DL bar is a nice change of pace. Hit up to 200kg in the warmup, which was smooth and quick.

I’d set 220kg (484lbs) as my opener, and it went up without a fight. I set 240kg (528lbs) for the second attempt. That got up to the knees and just died. I fought it, but it wasn’t going to cooperate. I stayed at 240 for the third, but by that point it was stapled to the floor.

Not a great performance, but I wasn’t expecting one, so no disappointment here.

My wife did significantly better. She opened at 150 (330 lbs), did probably her best single ever at 170 (374 lbs), and then got glued to the floor with 180 (396 lbs).

The 180 was a long shot, but considering how 170 moved it wasn’t unreasonable. The best part though is that just over a month ago, she failed with 165 twice, right at the knees. She had a really loose start, letting the bar drift out in front of her after it left the floor. That was gone now. At any rate she was happy, since 170 is still a PR and with a much better form.
