So now that I've actually got some members floating around here, what's everyone think? Any ideas? Suggestions? Requests? Things you hate?

Just so I can make myself clear, what I'm after here is...well, it's hard to narrow down.

The gist of it is that web forums tend to fall into two categories:

* The monster sites full of people
* The smaller hang-out type boards

The former tends to get a ton of traffic, but the trade-off is lower quality of information and policies that tend to cater to the least-common denominator.

The latter tends to have better information, but tends to be more of a close-knit group with little moderation. Instead the group more or less self-moderates.

I'd like this to be my experiment in combining the high quality of information from the no-BS boards, but with a higher traffic flow. With that in mind, I don't really want to encourage a hostile environment. Argue, debate, disagree, yes - but I really want to try and keep the outright hostility to a minimum.

I've laid out some basic policies up in the Announcements forum which I think are a good start. If anybody wants to make suggestions on changes or additions, by all means.

And yes, it's not lost on me that I'm probably the worst offender in that regard. Just keep in mind that if I can make some concessions to not being a complete ass, then anyone can.

Part of higher traffic means that I'll need staff to keep things on track. If anybody's interested in being a moderator, let me know.

I'm not trying to make this a competitor for any existing boards, either. I'm not trying to put anybody out of business. This is just something long overdue for myself and the 10 people on the 'net that don't hate my guts Happy Dance
Don't know if this was supposed to happen but when I replied to a topic it posted fine, then went to add another reply it added to my original first reply.
Ah, yeah. That's actually a feature of this software - if you double post within I think 10 minutes, it just adds the posts together. It's designed to prevent having 2-3 posts in a row if it's just a quick add-on.

I can cut it off or change the time limit if it's going to get annoy people, though Smile
Would it do that if I were to quote different people in the same thread?
You know I have no idea, haha.

I haven't tested all the features out yet, which is why I wanted some people around to test things out and iron out the bugs before I did a full-on opening.
All first generations should be Beta's, it worked for RIM and Microsoft

Well let's try
Here I'm quoting you
Ah, well that's kinda neat.

It'll definitely cut down on double-posting and whatnot.

I'm not quite sure about how I feel about it though. I might be able to adjust it so it only works in certain forums.

I agree about double posting. And so many people ask how to double quote, so here might be your answer

However... "Please correct the following errors before continuing:

PLEASE FIX.

OK I just dropped the post flood timer to 20 seconds.
