If you had unlimited funds to build out a gym exactly to your liking, what would it include?

I'm asking b/c I'm in the process of building out a small facility that will be in what used to be my workshop. Granted, my funds are far from unlimited... but I have a decent amount to put toward this project.

I'm in the final stages of insulation and drywalling so it'll soon be time to hit the submit button on my equipment purchases. I have a rolling list of things I'm planning on picking up from EFS, Power-Lift, Perform Better and a local dealer known as Christian Fitness.

I think my list covers everything I want/need, but I'd be interested in hearing what you'd personally do.
Two power racks. These would need band pegs and a monkey chin-up bar.
Platforms to bolt the racks to, these include an 8x8 area with rubber for Olympic lifts.
DL platform with band attachments (easy to make).
Benches, to fit inside each rack.
Lat-pulldown/Seated row combo: facepulls, abs, rows, warm-up, pushdowns, etc.
GHR: ghr, back raises, situps, etc.
Bars: Texas or Jesup, 55-pound comp bar, fatbar, SSB, GCB, Pendlay Olympic
Prowler: a fucking must.
Adjustable DB handles.
Weights
Bumpers

Then the extras
Bands (Jstretch and thera bands)
Chains
Dip/chin belt
Handles for pulldowns/rows
Fatgripz
Rope (we have a 100-foot 2" piece for hand-over-hand stuff, and a shorted 15-foot 2" piece for hanging over the racks for rows or pullups)
Blast-straps
T-handle
Farmers bars
Sandbags (various weights)
Medicine balls (various weights)
Scottish Highland implements
Neck harness (a good one, like the ironmind one)
CoC grippers (various)
A tricked out, fucking pimp chalk bowl with wheels and shit
A radio

To be honest, though, I could be good with a rack, bumpers, some fat rope and a prowler.
Yeah that about covers it. Throw in some other shit like a couple of tires, stones, other strongman/odd-object stuff, but that's the gist of it.
Del's list has just about everything.

I would add a weighted vest and a few boxes for Box Squats/Step Ups. Maybe a sled (through you could always drag the Prowler.)

Unlimited funds, eh? I'd add a Reverse Hyper, Leg Press, Seated Calfraise, and a Hammer Strength Iso Lateral High Row. Big Grin

I may end up doing a home gym in the near future. I'll probably start with a rack, DL platform (homemade), bench, bar, and DB. And maybe some sort of Lat-pulldown/Seated row combo. I already have some these, along with a treadmill.
What's up Del... thanks for the thoughts.

I've got one rack coming with pegs and monkey chin up bar.

Quote:Platforms to bolt the racks to, these include an 8x8 area with rubber for Olympic lifts.

I'm hoping a buddy can help me make one. For the time being, I'm simply putting some cheap rubber flooring down. Ideal? No... but I have to work within my budget.

Quote:DL platform with band attachments (easy to make).

That's one thing I didn't have on the list.

Quote:Benches, to fit inside each rack.

Check.

Quote:Lat-pulldown/Seated row combo: facepulls, abs, rows, warm-up, pushdowns, etc.

Check.

I struggled finding a set-up I like. I couldn't tell what I thought of the few that EFS has up on their site. I ended up going with Power-Lift's combo pulley. This thing is badass as far as pulldown/row devices go.

And props to my local distributor. I wanted to check out some of their equipment and he took me to the Philadelphia Eagles training center where he recently delivered a bunch of stuff.

Quote:GHR: ghr, back raises, situps, etc.

Desperately wanted one but it got bumped to the first position of "items to purchase next year" list.

Quote:Bars: Texas or Jesup, 55-pound comp bar, fatbar, SSB, GCB, Pendlay Olympic

Starting with a Texas bar for now which is what we use at our facility, primarily. I'm also picking up a cambered and trap bar.

Quote:Prowler: a fucking must.

Agreed and check.

Quote:Adjustable DB handles.

Check. Though I've never used them. But I wasn't about to go out and spend a fortune on an entire rack.

Let me ask you... do you typically load these up with 10 lb plates to mimic the typical diameter of a DB?

Quote:Weights
Bumpers

Check. Found some great deals from a local distributor.

I have most of this stuff already, thankfully.
One more question... any recommendations on a GHR?
Quote:Let me ask you... do you typically load these up with 10 lb plates to mimic the typical diameter of a DB?

Eh, no, I really only use them for Rows and sidebends. When I did a lot of DB presses we would just load them with 25's or smaller...never really worried about diameter since they're awkward anyway.

You know, I've used a ton of different GHR's, and my favorite is the one made by Iron Gladiators, but it's a custom piece and last I heard Agnaar isn't making them anymore.

But, the standard EFS model is the second best to me, I think we have a pro and a collegiate or something, there's 4 in our place. They're the most comfortable, offer the best motion and feel, and are adjustable in just about every way. I would be willing to bet that the econo GHR would be fine for home use, but you definitely don't want to skimp on the GHR.

I don't like their 45-degree hypers, however.
Thanks Del.
Damn Steve, you're gonna have one kick ass gym!

I already have a pretty sweet ass facility. But there's always people there. We have 3 trainers training out of there and a limited amount of general memberships.

Not such a bad problem to have, don't get me wrong.

I'm looking for a cave for myself and a few of my training partners.

Plus, with a baby on the way, I'll be able to transition some of my one-on-one clients over to my new home gym which will make life/schedule much simpler.

I'll throw some pics up once I finally have it up.
