I'm one of the refugees from EP and thought I'd move my journal over here.

I am training for 2 races this year, City Chase which is an urban adventure race in May and the Intact Half Marathon in August.Indeed So my City Chase team name is Bacon and Eggs and that is my first goal this year, hence the title.Tongue

My training is geared towards running this year. Increasing my overall speed and conditioning since City Chase is a lot of running but at the chasepoints, it's a lot of other physical stuff so I need to be well rounded.

I'm still in the losing baby weight category, my daughter is 18 months old and I'm at my prepregnancy weight of 143lbs but have belly flab that I am trying to lose, well actually, flab everywhere I'm trying to lose. It's funny how your body changes once you have a baby.Rolleyes I'm finding things are different for the way my body responds to food and training, so it's been interesting.

That's it for now, I'll be keeping my training log in the Challenge section for now.

It's great fun, your given a chase sheet when the race starts with clues and riddles to where the points are in the city. You then have to figure them out and make a strategic plan to get everything done in the 6 hours allotted. You also get a bus pass for the day to use transit but as it's done on a weekend, it's faster to run to most places if they are relatively close.

Some of the things we did was a football challenge where we had to catch balls that we punted at us, kicking a ball through the uprights and some typical football drills, wall climbing, launching myself onto a velcro wall, being chained and locked together, having to run around the stands of the football stadium finding numbers and then figure out the combination, had to get 3 members of the public to sing a song on the radio with us(that was embarrassing), obstacle course, fire fighting stuff at one of the stations to name a few.

If you are really good, you can go on to the National and International levels. Last year we came in 184th out of 360 teams I believe and finished in 5.5hrs. And they have them in tons of cities worldwide.
It's my fellow city chaser Badger

You rmarathon sounds like a great challenge too!
So I'm having difficulty with my diet totals. I'm not losing and I've increased my activity. I need help! I've been counting calories and measuring my food, here are my totals for the last two days:

Monday:
Calories 1597
Carbs 253
Fat 40
Protein 62

Tuesday:
Calories 1435
Carbs 221
Fat 34
Protein 66

Both days I ran, just 5km and on Monday I did ashtanga yoga for 90min and Tuesday I also did some lower body weights. I tried to increase my carbs but wonder if I'm not eating the right type at the right time...
My first gut feeling would be that you most likely need more calories on the training days. My second gut feeling would be increasing protein- seems a bit low (also increasing the risk of losing muscle: how about .75-1g/lb body weight). I think by adding more protein to every meal, you would get more bang from the carbs you are eating and your body may feel more satiated and less prone to holding onto the fat you are trying to lose.

However, I would think it would be a challenge training for the event and trying to lose weight at the same time- a tricky game of figuring the right amount of calories.

Anyway, my input....I am sure others can be more specific.....

BTW, love that title!
Thanks, that is where my problem lies, in training. I was having steady losses when just trying to lose weight but now I just need to figure out what combination works for me.

I will up my protein intake and see where that takes me.Smile
I'm going to Calgary for a meeting! :bravoclap:Can't wait, I've never had to travel for work before. So we are leaving today and driving down, stupid budget cuts, they won't fly usAngry. And then we're staying at the Delta Calgary Airport. All day tomorrow is the meeting and then we drive back in the afternoon.

I'm going to try and sneak in a workout tonight at the hotel gym.Tongue

I carb cycle with workouts too. I would think you definitely need to up the protein so you're aiming for at least 1-1.5 gm/pd then work in your fats and lastly complete your #'s with carbs. Even if I run, I still have a lower carb day and up the carbs on my workout days only. Your non-workout days might be a lower # of cals ie:1200 and your work-out days higher ie:1500 (just using examples). What I do is work on an avg. intake for the week then adjust the calories for your specific days. I know it's hard too but you might want to up your water a bit especially since you're running.

Have fun in Calgary!!Badger
