I've had a cast iron fry pan in the cupboard for almost a year now and haven't used it because I didn't get around to seasoning it properly. Today I finally did it and used it to cook up some eggs and WOW! it's awesome! I'm not buying that piece of shit non stick cookware again! I used to buy the Tefal stuff and we use it every day. It doesn't even last for one year before I have to throw it out because it's lost it's "non-stickness".
I know right? I have been using my cast iron for quite a while, once you get the seasoning right it is awesome - totally non stick. Excellent! And if it loses it's non stick you just re- season it! Big Grin
How do you clean yours Christal?
My hubby bought me one for my birthday and I've only used it once cause I don't know how to cook in it with out a bunch of grease.Sad What do you use to keep yours from sticking?

You have to get it seasoned well Becky..rub it down with oil and put it in the oven on low heat and let it 'cook 'for many hours. You should NEVER use soap to clean your cast iron...if you don't have a plastic scraper, I would suggest buying one...if you have any stuck on food use your scraper and scalding hot water..you can also use coarse ground sea salt and a sponge to help get rid of cooked on food.Once it is clean put it on the hot eye to dry then wipe down the inside again with oil an dstore in the stove.
I seasoned mine twice before I used it. I slathered oil all over it - just a fine film, not so it's dripping. I put it in the oven (upside down so the oil drips off the cookware) about 300 degrees F for an hour. Line the bottom of your oven with aluminum foil so the excess oil can drip onto it; when you're done you can throw it away. There will be smoking so if you have any fire alarms turn them off!!
Thanks ladies, I think I will do this today and then see how it works.
I read to clean the cast iron with salt. Never put it in the dishwasher. There are possibly other ways but this is the only one I know of.
I use hot water and a scrub brush but no soap. But I have read you can use salt too.
